Supporting Local Habitats

Where we bird

Three signature habitats for Spain birding—dehesa and gorges, Atlantic wetlands, and the Strait migration flyway—woven into our field-tested itineraries.

Monfragüe gorge at dawn

Extremadura & Monfragüe

Dehesa woodland, Monfragüe gorges, and steppe around Trujillo and Cáceres—Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture, Great Bustard, and Eurasian Eagle-Owl country.

Flamingos wading in Doñana under a clear sky

Doñana wetlands

Doñana National Park holds one of Europe’s great wetland systems: herons, spoonbills, flamingos, Squacco Heron, and—depending on season—Spanish Imperial Eagle over the marshes.

Raptors over the Strait of Gibraltar

Strait of Gibraltar & the Mediterranean

Tarifa and the Strait for raptor migration, plus coastal wetlands toward the Ebro Delta—soaring storks, kites, and seabirds on a short boat when the weather allows.

Common Questions

Do I need a special visa?

No. Most US tourists enter Spain visa-free under the Schengen short-stay rule. ETIAS is not in operation yet; we will brief you if it opens before your dates.

Can I bring birding equipment?

Yes. Binoculars, spotting scopes, and cameras are routine. Pack optics in cabin bags when you can and keep serial numbers.

Are direct flights available?

Yes. Major US airlines offer nonstop and one-stop flights to Madrid (MAD) from hubs including New York, Miami, and Dallas. Some itineraries start in Barcelona.
